BHS Music Rooms
(AIA Award Winner 2010)

These prefabricated music practice rooms were the AIACCC 2010 Design Award Winner.  Deep splays on the south side of each room provide passive sun shading.  The design of each face is suggestive of a musical instrument:  a flute, cello, guitar and a piano.  The design of each practice room is meant to offer the school a unique façade that blends with the modernist hill-top town personality of the school.  Stucco exterior.  Cork tiles used for interior floors, walls and ceilings to make the interior space feel fully enveloping to the musician, as well as sound absorbing.  The one main façade of each room could be deeply carved and sculpted because the wall material was made of high density foam.
